The future of contesting is here... remote operation with all stations. N5XZ, YU6DX, and yours truly KJ5Y. Conditions in the week leading up to this one were somewhat fantastic. Reminiscent of good prop years gone by... We heard about a solar event and I thought- surely the radio god's would not want to hurt our contest... but the news was indeed correct... bands were wiped out about 2/3 of the contest! This was the first full outing for the GXP7-7 which was put up in the last month. Performance was excellent even with the tough conditions. 2 elements on 40 work very well and we seemed to be holding our own with the bigger stations. Key lesson learned: the remote circuit is not fast enough. Lots of audio dropouts, pops, SpeedX codex artifacts. Missing dits, etc. At times copy was impossible. We apologize for our delays in responding and requests for repeats. Q rate degrades dramatically with a few repeat requests. All my ops can run 240 q's per hour but not to be with crazy circuit trouble. Switched to wireless LTE modem and improved about 80% late Saturday night (03:00Z about) but then the bands were shut down by the magnetic storm. Saturday day the bands were so alive it was fantastic! Easy to work good runs in EU and AS. Sunday after the solar particles arrived the ionosphere was short circuited down to our latitude. EU wasn't heard until right before the end of the contest on 20m! Good runs to NA/SA on 15/10 on Sunday, made up for the slow rates on the lower bands. Mediocre station and super operators = mediocre score. But we enjoyed it anyway. See you in the next test.. Our network issues will be resolved. And no solar flare event .. the radio god's need to smile again:-) Eqp: Kenwood TS-590S Expert 1.3K-FA Amp GXP7-7 at 100' Dipole @ 95' for 80 N1MM+ running through Hamachi to network all logs RCForb by the remote software 73 from the KJ5Y team Band QSOs Pts WPX Pt/Q 3.5 60 105 10 1.8 7 536 1452 148 2.7 14 1133 1850 525 1.6 21 224 308 45 1.4 28 72 79 3 1.1 Total 2025 3794 731 1.9 Score: 2,773,414 1 Mult = 2.8 Q's
