Oh boy, that was hard work. Not the conditions, which were great, but having to
spend 3 hours in hospital this morning, only to find out I had a mini stroke,
which affected my vision.
I was unable to call CQ, simply because I couldn't see print on the screen
clearly, so had to take it slowly. Also had to keep taking a break, as my eyes
were being strained, causing a headache.
It's no fun getting old!

Still, the time spent on air was fun, and I enjoyed it, even if it was
difficult at times.

I'm also hoping it has increased my ARRL Centennial QSO Party points, as I
would love to reach 7500 for that award.

Thanks to all for the points, and hope to see you in the next one!

Very good conditions. Lots of fun. Thanks for all the Q's, especially the many
stations who struggled but persevered to dig my call out from under the noise
and QRM.

The remote station in New York worked perfectly and responded exactly as if I
were in front of the radio instead of hundreds of miles away in a condo in New
Jersey where antennas of any variety are verboten.

After waking-up from a nap after the ARRL 160 Contest, I felt like I was missing
all the fun up on ten meters, so I set up N1MM and jumped in. Running a
barefoot Yaesu FT-857D into a Cushcraft A3S Yagi up 10m.

I'm becoming more a active after a long layoff. Not much BIC time, but
worthwhile and fun nonetheless. Need to work on my stamina.

Not being much of a RTTY op in in the past, I worked many new ones. Not much
from the southwest or west coast, though. ZL and ZS were surprisingly strong.

Expect to get on for the RTTY RU next month.

See you then!

RTTY Skimmer is really coming along nicely. I was typically spotted in 3-5
seconds after my first CQ. EU opening Sunday was very short for us in CA. But
at least we got a shot at a few stations. Conditions were less disturbed than I
expected, but CO was deep in my skip zone all day. I called a half-dozen CO
stations countless times to no avail. They (and I) were in the noise floor.

Thanks for the contacts. Hope everyone had a good time. We should have final
results out in a week or so after the 15 Dec log deadline.

A good contest with great conditions. Running K3 at 100 watts into vertical. Ran
SO2V running on one VFO and S & P on the other for most of Sunday. It worked

My best moment was my first QSO of the contest, which was with Ed, W0YK. I had
not tested my macros and found that after he answered my call, I replied with
his call sign then my call sign and the exchange. I could just see him scowling
at the waste of time sending my call again! Fixed that right away. Since I've
attended his class at Contest University the last three years I'm sure he's
marked me down to stay after class next time for remedial training...

Thanks for putting on this contest. It was great fun.

Time on was mostly in the late afternoon both Saturday and Sunday. Good
openings to JA both days, culminating in a nice run in the last half hour. I'm
going to miss these conditions in a few years! Thanks for all the Q's!
VE4VT   Single Op LP   26,7302014-12-07 16:54:10
Band closed with a thud 15 minutes after the contest started. Didn't open again
until nearly 1530z. The EU opening was very short lived, less than 1 hour, and
was very weak.

Good domestic NA propagation Sunday afternoon, but conditions were better 24
hours earlier. When the sunset, so did the contest. Even JA's were not
printable on Sunday afternoon.

Hope things are better next weekend.

Had a good time playing RTTY, I think I spent more time trying to figure my

switched from my IC-718 to the IC-7000, filters are so much better and 2Tone
rocked. 73

Got on for the last two hours, on one frequency, and ran 136 contacts
straight to the end. I guess everyone was happy for a fresh call to work.
Only difficulty was deciding whether to point the beam at USA or Japan.
Tried to provide equal time to each, and a little bit of time to South America

and VK/ZL. Thanks to Al, AD6E for use of the callsign.

wasn't the best here on Sunday. Some stations were very strong, but most were
in the noise. No Europe heard or worked.

Operating from Maine, we skipped the start and got on at sunrise 12 UTC.
Operated just under 10 hours straight, taking off the last two hours. Hard to
break into Europe at first, then about 4 good hours into Europe. Then
we had to start swinging the beam and start working North and South
America. At sunset in Maine we pulled the plug. Lots of people were happy
to get Maine multiplier. Thanks to WW1ME for use of the callsign.

Good prop to JA Friday evening but struggled getting anyone to hear me on Sat.
morning until about 1800z when the band suddenly opened to the US with great
signals in all directions. Unfortunately too late for EU and after a nice 2
hour run my power went out so my contest was over - it came on just in time
for the Seahawks game!

At my age, you look to the future in how many more peaks of the sunspot cycle
you will be around to operate. Realistically this might be my last peak so I
decided to do a full effort while 10 is still cooking along. Highlight had to
be VP8NO calling me for multiplier number 100. Thanks to all for repeats with
LP and kudos to all the JA stations who got on the air late in the contest for
some nice long runs, when Sunday afternoon can be the pits with activity.
Thanks also to Don and Ed for putting on this event. Maybe it was conditions
but sure seemed like a lot more EU activity. Good to see some familiar calls.

stations were heard. Hard work but good fun.

Decided last minute to throw a Buddipole Vertical together and get on for a
couple of hours. Band was up and down but when it was open it was a lot of fun.
Operated mostly S&P but did try to run a few times. Lots of US and VE
stations. The highlight was working Morocco, Cuba, Belize, Venezuela and
Andorra. Looking forward to trying again next year if the conditions hold up.
