Used special event callsign for 100 years policing by Ontario Provincial
QSL direct with SASE via VE3BDB for commemorative QSL card.
Super check partial caused call to show up as VC3C on a lot of contacts.
Had fun. Thanks to all. 73 va3pc

First time for W4HOD in this one. The different scoring made for a very
interesting contest. Thanks for all the contacts.
S56A   SO/Single Xcvr LP   1,133,7582009-10-11 09:08:35
Nice condx so 100 W was enough even on RTTY with Yagi fixed North.

Proper scoring on distance but I also like multipliers.

W5KI   SO/Single Xcvr HP   348,5422009-10-11 09:08:53
Only a few hours to work but really fun. I absolutely LOVE the distance
scoring, with grids the easiest way to handle it accurately.
K9MUG   SO/Single Xcvr HP   3,009,4502009-10-11 09:12:35
A very enjoyable contest with my favorite format. Thanks to everyone who gave me
a qso, especially to those whom I asked for many repeats.

I hope to be ready for JARTS, another of my favorite contests.

73 to all,
Darrell K9MUG

Not enough time as usual, but had fun.
RA9CB   SO/Single Xcvr HP   2,182,9722009-10-11 09:27:09
Great contest, thank you! Must have been more entrants and better conditions
though (just a grumble, hi!)
Ten-Tec Orion, 2L quad (15&10), GP (20), Delta loop (40), vertical (80).
See you next year,
KØTG(@KØTG/Ø)   SO/Single Xcvr LP   431,6742009-10-11 09:39:19
Operating from a portable location in northern MN (Croftville) using a 4BTV and
IC-7000. Had fun!

I was having pretty good success to EU earlier in the AM on sunday on 20, then
things went south. 40 was strong here.

Good to hear some other MWAers in there too K4IU was one call I found several
places along with K0PK. Neither of them made it in my log though. Tried K0PK
for a while this morning on 40, but he did not hear me.

Great contest, good condx especially on Sunday.
WB2RHM   SO/Single Xcvr LP   3,177,7132009-10-11 10:20:44
SO1R only.

IMHO The Makrothen has the best format of all the RTTY contests. It should be
adopted, promoted, and underwritten by some major commercial sponsor.

Also, the Makrothen attempts to recognize the efforts of the SO1R folks.

First time entering this contest. Had a great time and will be back next year.

Tnx for all calls.
WØRAA   SO/Single Xcvr LP   647,5852009-10-11 11:04:04
Had a fun time and the bands were in good shape. I managed to work a few new
ones. I stayed with 20 meters only. I listened on 15 and 10 but didn't hear
enough activity to make the move worthwhile. I like the 3 8 hour segments and
the XYL did also. Thanks to all who gave me a contact and looking forward to
the 2010 contest.
SM2JUR   SO/Single Xcvr LP   800,0342009-10-11 11:46:25

A great contest with non stop action. Lots of fun watching the miles/kilometers
accumulate. I particularly like the format of splitting 24 hours into three
segments and the level playing field. Had to miss the last two hours on Sunday
due to family comittments.

Thanks for the Q's.

WØLSD   SO/Single Xcvr HP   4,774,1162009-10-11 12:16:46
I love the 8 hours on and 8 hours off format. With no multipliers it makes it
interesting not having to battle the east coast for EU mults. Best conditions
on 40 (Friday night) I have seen for many a moon. Great runs on 20 Sunday..not
enough activity (propagation) on 15 to even bother. It's a lot of fun to watch
the score meter pop by 10,000 points per Q. hi. Thanks to all for the patience
with repeats on grids.
KX7L   SO/Single Xcvr LP   351,8002009-10-11 12:25:12
This was more fun than I would have imagined. Great openings to Europe on
Saturday on 20, but very little to be heard on 80 here. Fun to watch the score
for each contact on N1MM. Couldn't quite manage a 10k point QSO though.
VA7ST   SO/Single Xcvr HP   1,798,3162009-10-11 13:17:55
2009 -- SFI= 69 | A=2 | K=1 Pretty mellow conditions
2008 -- SFI= 69 | A=2 | K=1 Good at start, bad later
(with fast solar wind Saturday: SFI= 71 | A=25 | K=2 and 5 at one point)

* Not as many JAs as I had hoped for.
* 80M didn't have nearly as much action as I expected, given great conditions.
* 40M didn't open to EU very well.
* 20M was very rough to EU on Sunday morning, but at least a few got through.
* 15M and 10M were totally dead here.

As always, I looked forward to this one all week but when it got started I
realized it was going to be a long weekend of trying hard with rather poor

Pretty slow start on 20M Friday evening -- a few JAs and UA0s in the log, but
not much and left 20M around 0125z.

Operated about 3.5 hours of the final overnight period (0800-1600z). Got up for
the last hour when I figured EU would be open, but tier-two signals never got
much beyond the scratchy stage (OK, that doesn't quite describe it, but you
know what I mean).

That 20M opening on Sunday morning was building nicely but wasn't fully in
place by the time the contest ended. Had much better success S&P but not too
many workable stations making it over the pole. Called CQ in several places
with limited results. Primarily the stations responding were too weak to copy,
and in bunches too thick to pry apart. Definitely no golden log for me this
time, as I had to make a best guess on a couple of the guys buried in QRM and
line noise who just couldn't pull through. The high-power guys got through no
problem, but most of them must have been running instead of poking around for

Laziness cost me a personal best for Makrothen -- had I been on an hour
earlier, I'm pretty sure I would have hit the 2.06 million point mark, which
was my goal.

Best DX was VK7AD for 20,000 points or so on 40M. Best hour was 2145z to 2245z
on 20M with just 45 in the log, but many of them JAs at 8,000 points apiece.

The amp sure loves the SteppIR 3-element + 40M dipole. And the rotator loves
bidirectional mode. Wish Asia had more activity these days to make that mode
more useful. Still, it's now possible to check the Asian path in 3 seconds vs.
spinning the yagi all the way around to 300 from U.S. 105 degrees.

Now off to a turkey dinner at the inlaws for CDN Thanksgiving. WX has been
great up here in B.C. this week. After Makrothen ended I got out in the
sunshine and mowed the lawns for the final time this year and bagged a carpet
of chesnut leaves. Put the tractor away for the winter, prepped the snowblower
and am ready for the snow any time now.

Bring on CQWW SSB and the rest of the tests.

73 and thanks for the contacts everyone.

Conditions not too great from Eastern US. Tried out N1MM logger for first time.
Impressed with it. First time operating Makrothen with a means to calculate
score.... fun to see those big numbers! Will be submitting a Checklog. Operated
the contest with 50 watts and a G5RV at 30 feet.
AD4EB   SO/Multi Xcvr HP   2,592,3042009-10-11 14:07:07
Alway enjoy scoring over a million points in any contest. Much better
conditions and turnout than expected. I really like the grid square format,
makes for a good exchange plus fun to monitor the resulting distances.

Many thanks to the folks that manage this contest.

G3RSD   SO/Single Xcvr LP   1,052,1482009-10-11 14:34:48
A very civilised contest with lots of activity and high scoring on the lowest
bands. Thank you to the organisers
VE7NSR(VA7DXC)   SO/Single Xcvr LP   458,7662009-10-11 15:04:16
Lots of European activity on 20m each morning. JA/Asia late afternoon activity
less than expected. Time split 50/50 between Run and S&P. 100 watts performed
well on the SteppIR 3ele.

KL8DX   SO/Single Xcvr HP   649,2782009-10-11 17:34:51
I have to agree with several others, I really like this format and
scoring. Highlight was working ZS2EZ Barry, for a whopping total of
16,654 points (according to N1MM logger). If that ain't cool, huh?

I had a very limited amount of time to operate this weekend as I
am deeply engaged in a bathroom remodeling project but just had to
get on for a few hours. The path to Europe on Saturday was great but
an increase in solar wind made 20 horrible for most of Sunday. It
did get better as the afternoon progressed but nothing like Saturday
was. I wished I had more time to operate this contest as it's fast
becoming a favorite for me. Thanks to the sponsors and for the QSO's.
As normal, life and work interfere way too much with my radio hobby!

Just a part time effort for a couple hours Friday night and Saturday and 1 hour
early Sunday morning before heading out to watch the Giants dominate the
Raiders. Had fun, especially when calling CQ. Thanks to all the ops out there!

Thanks to the organisers and to everyone for the Q's
A nice relaxing format with the 8 on 8 off same as
the SARTG.
A few less Q's than last year but a similar score.
Total distance was 3183368 Kms.
Condx were pretty good all round, 80m was its usual
noisy self but 15m was open for long periods, not a
great deal on 10m though.

Don't work someone and then park yourself 1hz away from
him with your 10kw this does tend to wipe him out !!

Log is on LoTW for paper cards please see QRZ.COM

73 and hope to cu in the JARTS next weekend.

Really liked the scoring and exchange format. This was a fun contest!
Conditions were only fair with a lot of QSB. Nothing heard on 15 or 10.
Best scoring contact was VK6HD on 80. 34K points in one shot!

Used FT-2000/Drake L7/PK232/N1MM. Stacked 3el.tribanders on 20, dipoles &
slopers on 40 & 80.

Thanks for the Q's!

One of my Favorite contests. I really like the 8 hr segments, scoring by
distance and no penalty for only owning 1 radio. Thanks for all the Q's and see
you in the next one!

Conditions down on last couple of weeks; overall Saturday better than
Sunday.Generally struggle to work outside Europe, except on 20m. 15m open for
some of the time but few contacts made despite too much time spent CQing.

Like the format.

My ninth Makrothen Contest and the best.
Except for 10 m (Nobody, really a desert here...), good propagation on all
I enjoy the contest. Each year, it the opportunity to do some good DX.
With 40 Watts and a multiband dipole 2 x 20 m, my best DX is DV1JM - 10946 km
on 40 m.
Thanks to all who worked me.
See you again in 2010.
