Very windy here. First south leg of 40-meter inverted-V leg must have
disconnected because Matchbox tuning went haywire. Next thing I heard was big
noise and now all the south inverted-V legs are on the ground. Rats.

40m only and didn't have time to do the entire hour.

But, great fun. Had a short run on 7026.16 and was so surprised to get a call
from Stan, AH6KO. Yes, he was weak, but I'm reminded that that was 40m and all
I have is a horizontal loop holding up the trees about 40'. Many thanks, Stan,
for our first CWT QSO, to the best of my recollection. And, thanks for
continuing to call until I pulled out the entirety of your call.

It was also great to get a call from non-member Greg, WJ8Y/M in his OH mobile.
CWT never fails to give surprises, does it?

Happy day to all my CWT friends!

Did not go to the OF3BCX-location while Aurora was up, and hopes for Stateside
minimal from Finland. Some strong 14 MHz signals from Europe and especially
Dov/4Z4DX on the 12 m sloper. Changing bands is slow with the roller tuner, but
went for the last quarter to 7 MHz. It was a feast of SM's only with thanks to
all (LA0CX heard)... Cheers/73, Zaba OH1ZAA

K9ZO   Single Op HP   12,2572017-10-11 07:11:42
Started OK on 40. Of course, the SWR was high on the SteppIR. I think of the
hundreds of dollars wasted on that antenna! 47 QSOS the first 17 minutes; 70
QSOs at 1327Z. By 1336Z it was slowing down. Band change at 1338Z. Signals
were weak on 20 and Europeans were louder than the USA boys, so the multipliers
were welcome. USA were S5 or weaker, even the big boys. At 1353Z lots of CQing.
No rush at the end because there were no signals K7SV was barely in there at
1356Z. Fun anyway, but no breaking score! I will raise the ends of the 40
meter inverted vee to try to improve the SWR for next time.

Wow! What a difference a week makes!!

I felt like I was in a black hole and no one was hearing my calls today, then I
looked up and saw that I was on a different 40 meter antenna! By the time I
finally noticed, it was later in the CWT, so I change tactics and just worked
at lower speed hoping to entice some "new" folks into the fun. It
worked, as I got calls for several people who are not members of CWOps!!

Last week was my best hour. Today was my MURPHY time.

I started about 1 minute late but no big deal, thought I could catch up. Then
at about 8 minutes in my SIXPAK failed and lost all my antennas. So, out I
went to try to diagnose the issue. I removed and replaced 2 cinch jones plugs
on one side of the SIXPAK and that seemed to fix part of the issue. I came in
and worked the last 2 minutes of 20 meters.

Now - out I go to replace the other 2 connectors and hopefully will be on this
afternoon.

Guys, if you want a nice relaxed CWT just get a setup like mine, where the
keyboard is susceptible to RF and takes 20 seconds to respond after your
transmission ends. No rushing here, on 40! Just sit back and relax until the
keyboard starts responding. Strangely, SWR is higher on 20m but no computer QRM
there. Nice to work several Europeans. Thanks, all!

Flex 6300, 5 watts, 40 meter inverted vee at 50 ft. Started out running HP on
80. Was wiping out WB2VYK on her 40 meter operation in the next room so I
decided to quit. I switched to 40, strongest signal on band was John, K4BAI,
and I worked him running 1 watt. 40 was so good I decided to continue QRP with
5 watts and report only that. Marty and I were able to both work on 40 at the
same time by alternating contacts. After 4 more contacts, I spent 8 minutes
calling W6SX, and after many ? he was able to pull out my call. Also managed
to get W7SW. Not nearly as many contacts, but QRP can really be fun when
conditions are right.

Work has been getting in the way of CWTs lately. Managed to get ten minutes in
this morning.

FT1000MP, Alpha 78, 1 KW, TH6DXX, dipole, zepp. No signals on 80M just before
1300Z (except K4UP/M up on the CHN frequency, 3556.5). So started on 40M and
it was very good to most of North America. 20M was quite good to Europe and
west coast of USA. But never found a frequency to try to run on, so all QSOs
on 20 were S&P. One of my better scores. Thanks for all QSOs. 73, John,
K4BAI.

I can hear everyone muttering, "Who the hell is VE7RAC? And how come I
never heard of him, especially since his exchange was in CWT format - Jim 1368
- and the number is in the range of CW Ops members?"

Well, to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary there are quite a few RAC suffix
special event stations on the air until Dec 31. For details, including award
info, check out http://wp.rac.ca/rac150/

I'm the designated VE7 CW/RTTY op for week of Oct 8 - 14 but, for family
reasons haven't been able to get on the air as much as I hoped. When I havee
been on cndx were rather poor and my best rate was about 15/hr. So, tonight
I've got some time and I'm tuning across the HF bands and hearing virtually
nothing. Well, nothing other than furious CW actvity with good signals over
relatively narrow segmeents of 40 and 80. OMG it's CW Ops with their weekly
one hour of CW mayhem. Say, should be able to make lots of Qs here,
particularly seeing as how I'm a member of CW Ops and know how CWT works. Even
made 100 Qs in one of their 1 hour segments some (better) years ago.

Just 2 issues. The Cabrillo file has to work for the RAC award adjudicators
and there's only 15 minutes left.

So, figured out the CBR file issues, got on and made 8 Qs in 7 minutes.

Thanks, guys.

You may well hear another VE7RAC next Wed.

73, Jim VE7FO
